I remember studying that lousy, little book, cover-to-cover as a pre-teen. Luckily for me, I did not confess to my ultimate sin against the flesh - chronic masturbation! What a horrible, guilt-inducing, bothched attempt to reach teens! Quick! get me the fire extinguisher!

Barbour denies invisible presence -- PDF from 1880
by cabasilas inrussell and barbour separated in 1879 and in just one short year barbour came to reject the idea that christ had returned invisibly in 1874. i only have one page of a july 1880 issue of the herald of the morning (page 2), but he clearly states:.
and he [jesus] will come back to the church, in like manner as they saw him go; and not in an invisible manner.. he goes on to explain the details of "our mistake.".
a pdf of that page from the july 1880 herald can be downloaded here:.

ha ha ha ha Nice find! Now, I too deny the presence of my invisible friend. See? I told you so. What foolishness that anyone could follow these folks, buy their literature, and sell out their lives, generation after generation to this ridiculous organization! Sheesh! I actually was born into this stupidity!

The Way To Love
by JamesThomas inone of my favorite little books is: the way to love: the last meditations of anthony de mello.. following is from the chapter: be awake.
it may be too direct, ruthlessly honest and straight-forward for many; we are not normally exposed to such hard-hitting guidance.
yet some of you it will touch in a significant way; enough to purchase this rare little gem that you may gleem from its pages much wisdom.. .

I finally took my stand.
by Orgull ini just missed two meetings for the first time in five years.. this past week i went "on vacation", housesitting for relatives nearby.
i told my bookstudy overseer i'd be "away", even though i was only a twenty minute drive from the kingdom hall.
i spent the entire week away from my insane family, away from the meetings and away from my "brothers and sisters".. it felt great.. coming home felt... not so great.. but the first brick in my fade has been laid.

Does anyone else feel like this???
by YoungAmerican ini don't post much but sure do love reading everyone else's post.
everyone here for the most part seems so normal (for apostates, haha).
so, i was born and raised a jw, baptized at 14, disfellowshipped at 17, reinstated at 28. the only reason i think i did that was because after 10 years of no contact with my father, mother and little sister they came to visit me (they lived on the east coast i live on the west coast) and i was so overwhelmed with seeing them and talking to them and hugging them, i wanted so much to please them and have a relationship with them again that i fooled myself into thinking i needed the "organization" and jehovah's approval to be worthy of their love.

It sounds like you have things pretty much under control, YA. I do understand how frustrating it is to have to keep up a facade and a charade. It can be exhausting if you have to do it a lot. Luckily, you don't have to. I tried it as a teen for a very short time, and it just didn't work for me, and I knew it couldn't and wouldn't. But every one is different. We all have different relationships and situations. Family of birth means more to some, while family of choice means more to others. Whatever makes you healthy and keeps your children safe and healthy is what's best.

Does the news still scare anyone else?
by YoungAmerican ini was just wondering how many of you still get a quezy feeling in your stomach after hearing someone on the news use the phrase "peace and security" or after reports on the news of all the large earthquakes that have been reported this last week or so?
i know we can all rationalize that there are always earthquakes and wars etc.... but i swear, no matter how hard i try to shake the sick feeling in my stomach when i hear all this stuff i can't seem to do it.
i still have visions in my head of what armagedon will be like from all the pictures i grew up seeing in the publications, talk about scarred for life.

Do you ever listen to Public Radio? http://www.npr.org/about/
The news from NPR tends to be a bit more in-depth and less sensational than what you get on other radio and television news programming. It often focuses on problem-solving in ways that regular radio and tv news tends to miss. You might find it more helpful to listen to news from that source, rather than from the more sensational programming out there, at least until you feel more sure of yourself and safer in your world. -

No, not in regard to biblical prophecies. After taking some geology, history, oceanography, and comparative religion classes, I don't worry about Armageddon. But I do get mighty worked up over hurricanes coming my way. That's news that worries me - not for fear of Armageddon, but for fear of tornadoes, flooding, downed power lines, and other nasty inconveniences associated with hurricanes. Take some classes in comparative religion, poli-sci and geology/meteorology. It should help you to feel better about how the world works. It may help you feel less worried about Armageddon, and hopefully more concerned about the ecological footprint we leave behind.
